I have used just two fabrics in these designs, but with the idea that if I made them into real quilts they would be made with scraps of light and dark fabrics.
This project fie has been ignored for a couple of years, but I think I should play with colours … the hardest part will be picking the colours!

These designs use just one very basic block, the basic Nine Patch, which is simply nine squares stitched together to make a square block. The designs could be made with just two fabrics, or one rather plain light background fabric with contrasting dark scraps.
I love the border of these designs too … simply 5 narrow strips of five different fabrics which includes the dark fabric used in the blocks, with the darkest of the fabrics used as the binding.

Just two fabrics, or light and dark scraps … make 9 patch blocks in some rather different layouts, then lay them out to form abstract designs.
It would be quite a challenge to sort fabrics for a scrap version of these designs, and I think I would opt for either the light or dark fabric to be just one fabric to make it a bit easier.
Even though I used basic 9 Patch blocks to design these quilts, I would play with the pieced blocks to see if I could arrange the blocks differently before I pieced them together.
